Overview
Education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one.
We believe that children need to be given the opportunity to grow
in a variety of ways. The right environment can help a child discover
a new passion, explore fresh ideas, further current interests, unearth
hidden talents or simply dabble in different pastimes.
As part of our endeavour to launch children on a voyage of self-discovery,
we have invested in carefully chosen equipment, supplies, and facilities
that provide the means for all-round development and personal growth.
At Vidya Niketan School, co-curricular activities are an integral
part of school life. Students are encouraged to participate in sports,
cultural and literary activities at the inter-house and inter-school
level to build confidence and foster a spirit of friendly competition.
Additionally, students are exposed to a broad spectrum of ideas
and activities designed to nourish mind, body and soul.

Mind
Vidya Niketan School features 45 spacious, well-ventilated classrooms
designed to make learning a pleasure. Four staff rooms make teachers
more accessible to the students. Our entire campus has been planned
to foster a spirit of inquiry and a thirst for knowledge.
The Library — A Resource Centre
Our library is a key support system to mainline teaching and learning
processes. At Vidya Niketan School, the library is a hub of activity
and a centre of learning.

Separate libraries for the junior (Stds. I–V)
and senior (Stds. VI–XII) sections ensure that children
have access to age-appropriate reading materials covering an
eclectic range of subjects including:
|
|
Philosophy
|
Natural Sciences
|
|
Psychology
|
Mathematics
|
|
Religion
|
Applied Sciences
|
|
Social Sciences
|
World Studies

|
Language & Literature

Both libraries regularly update their collections to ensure that
students stay current with reading trends. The Junior School Library
doubles as an activity centre with an extensive reading enrichment
programme. Specially designed activities teach children to use reading
as a learning exercise and improve life skills. The aim of the Junior
School Library is to inculcate the reading habit; the Senior School
library ensures that the habit becomes lifelong.
Science Laboratories
Three separate laboratories for physics, chemistry and biology enables
students to conduct all experiments prescribed by the ICSE and ISC
syllabi.
The physics lab features apparatus that allows students to conduct
experiments related to electricity, magnetism, optics, and other
topics, reinforcing the theoretical concepts learnt in the classroom.
The physics lab gives the students the opportunity to enjoy learning
physics by experimenting, rather than passive listening.
Our chemistry lab equipped with high-resolution chemical balances,
Borosil glassware, a water demineralising plant and top-grade chemicals.
Here, ISC students perform qualitative analysis and use hand-operated
centrifuge machines. We pay close attention to safety; the lab has
a well-stocked first aid box, handy fire extinguishers and aprons
for students. In addition to the chemistry teachers, two efficient
laboratory assistants and two helpers manage the facilities.
Children also have unrestricted access to our large, well-lit biology
lab, where live specimens and equipment brings life to classroom
science.
Math Lab
The motive of this lab is to develop interest and curiosity in
students towards various branches in Mathematics through practical
understanding and applications. Also, it serves as a platform
for students to analyze math concepts practically apart from theory,
in a student friendly atmosphere. We have appropriate
materials and challenging accompanying worksheets. It is used
to review work in preparation for assessment And quizzes. It
also helps students to apply mathematical facts and principles in
actual life.
The Resource Room
This is where we practice prescriptive teaching. Teaching is tailored
to meet the needs and accommodate the varied learning styles of
children from classes I – VII having Specific Learning Difficulties.
These children have short attention spans and often struggle with
reading, spelling and math. Specially trained teachers work with
small groups of children to facilitate learning, enabling these
children to not only cope with academics, but also develop social
skills.

Sports Activities
The Vidya Niketan School sports field consists of six acres
of lush green land and features:
|
|
Three cricket pitches
|
A full-sized football field
|
|
A kho-kho field
|
Two volleyball courts
|
|
A throw ball court

Both boys and girls utilize these facilities for inter-school
as well as inter-house matches and competitions. These facilities
are utilized on annual sports days for junior (Std. I – IV,)
middle (Std. V – VII) and senior (Std. VIII – XII) students.
Games are compulsory thrice a week for all classes.
General Health
An ongoing emphasis on personal hygiene and healthy habits teaches
our students the value of taking care of themselves. The school
premises are kept impeccably clean, with particular care taken to
remove stagnant water. Restrooms are spotless. The kitchen and pantry
adhere to food safety guidelines; water coolers are cleaned and
serviced regularly.
Of late our school has come up with a lunch scheme which caters
only to the students of Class 10, 11 and 12. The food, which is a
wholesome and tasty meal fulfills the nutritional requirement of the
children. The menu consists of a variety of dishes which is
relished by the children.
We maintain basic medical information about each child, including
allergies and existing medical conditions. Should your child fall
ill or be injured while at school, we will inform you immediately.
Meanwhile, our school nurse will administer first aid and take care
of him or her in the quiet and comfort of the sick bay until your
arrival.
Soul
We at Vidya Niketan School are deeply aware of the need for spiritual
and emotional guidance during a child’s formative years. We
also recognize the need to inculcate a love for the arts. That’s
why we provide our students with every opportunity to explore, discover
and express creativity, emotion and hidden talent.
Music Room
We have two separate music rooms for Indian and Western music.
In the Indian music room, traditional Indian custom is followed.
Children sit on floor mats in front of an idol of Devi Saraswati
– the Goddess of knowledge. Lessons start with Saraswati Vandana.
Tanpura, harmonium, tabla and keyboard provide support. Bhajans,
patriotic songs, and folk songs are taught once a week to the students
of Stds. 1-VIII. Students of Stds. XI and XII may opt for Hindustani
music as an elective subject.
In the Western Music room, the atmosphere is very different. Children
sit on benches. Stds. I-VII learn western music weekly, with keyboard
support.
The Art Room
Our Art Room provides the ideal creative space in which children
can express themselves through colour, shape and form. We stock
art supplies of all descriptions – paints, crayons, paper,
construction card, threads, glitter, glue – in order to allow
students the freedom to experiment, learn, and create.
Yoga and Dance Halls
Yoga helps children develop better self-awareness, self-control,
flexibility and co-ordination. It encourages creativity to flow
and eliminates fear, anger and sadness. Yoga also helps the hyperactive
and attention-deficit child. These children crave movement and sensory
or motor stimulus. Yoga helps channelise these impulses in a positive
way. It helps instill calmness, confidence and balance. At Vidya
Niketan School, we integrate yoga with the learning process so children
can carry such skills beyond the yoga class and into their daily
routines.
Within the soothing environs of our Yoga Hall, active yoga exercises
are followed by deep relaxation techniques. The goal is to bring
children’s minds and bodies in sync to achieve an awareness
of inner space. Yoga is compulsory for all students from Std. V
to XII twice a week.
Our dedicated Dance Hall provides an outlet for another kind of
energy. Here, children are given a sense of rhythm and movement,
and develop good posture and an air of grace.
Counselling and Career Guidance
Children form the more vulnerable segment of society, and often
succumb to the pressures of daily life.
Challenges like competitiveness, academic difficulties, exam anxieties,
peer pressure, bullying, friendships, family crisis, sibling rivalry,
habits and other similar issues can have a lasting effect on a child’s
mental, physical, emotional, social and spiritual well being. The
situation is often aggravated by ill-informed (though well-intended)
advice and criticism from adults.
Counselling at Vidya Niketan School forms a very important part
of the support mechanism and helps us to understand and deal with
the difficulties that afflict children. It is a collective effort
that involves children, parents, teachers, school management and
the counsellors.
Trained counsellors try to provide a supportive, facilitative,
friendly, caring and nurturing environment that enables children
to gradually modify negative behaviour or thoughts. The Counselling
Room represents a secure, non-judgemental space in which children
can share their thoughts and fears.
Career guidance: It is crucial that students understand
what each career is all about before pursuing a specific course.
At Vidya Niketan School, students of Std. X and XII are exposed
to career talks followed by aptitude tests, and individual counselling
with parents. Additionally, we offer parenting advice and support
to those who require it.
